How I Wish I Knew

Every night, when stars adorn the sky
I wonder what they see

Every night, when they glow upon the sleepy world
I wonder how they feel

Every night, when they stuff into one sky to twinkle cheerfully
I wonder what they seek

All day, when they let sunlight mask them
I wonder what they fear

Yet every night, worn out by the sun
I wonder how they find the strength to shine

And every time I look at them
I wonder

The Moon

Specks of stars sprinkled in space, shimmered in the night sky
Majestically hung in the heavens above was a sphere of illumination watching over the world as it slept
And when the daylight swept in, the quiet of the night replaced by the fierceness of the sun
It slipped back into the shadows, until it was time for it to manifest itself once again

Clouds

Loyal visitors to the rugged world
They brush past a mountain’s rocky surface effortlessly

Their whiteness echoing purity
Their agility a reminder of grace

They run their silky profiles over the mountain’s rough scars
Touching them ever so slightly

But with enough might to sprinkle upon them a breath of fresh air
Before gliding on to fade the woes of yet another alp

Northern Lights

Every once in a while, nature enjoys a play of its own
When the sky unfolds into enchanting colors
The pretty curtains of light dance gracefully to the tunes unknown
Pausing even the most skillful dancers in their feat
To watch the sky flaunt its beauty

Musings of a Lonely Tree

One by one, my leaves had tugged themselves free
Each one as it pulled away prepped me for the freezing winter

Stark, I stood for six months among the snowclad mountains
Facing the slings and arrows of the harsh winter

Now, standing in the crisp weather
I count on the gradually melting snow for the first leaves to sprout

The sunshine brings along a warm comfort
Nourishing these little fronds with such gentleness
They shiver to the slightest whispers of the wind

And life pours back into my frozen being

Peace

The wave crashed onto the land
Bringing along nature’s purity

As it washes by me, I am part of the massive ocean, mysterious and unfathomable
As the commotion on the beach retreats to the far corner of my mind

The world around me ceases to exist, I feel a sense of tranquility
And when the ocean summoned its scout

The foam gurgled at my feet, before withdrawing to its abode
Soothed, I allow a smile to play on my lips

Night

The sun rose merrily through the day
Its soft golden rays embracing Earth, gently scraping away frost left behind by the merciless night

The night sneaked in from behind
Its chilly fingers sucking the life out of day, and swiftly replaced it with itself

The pretty stars gleamed with all their might, to let the world know of the victory, but also to protect their trophy
It was theirs, even if they had only a few hours to brag about it

Blood Moon

The moon was nowhere to be seen
One moment it’s there, the other it’s not

Sunlight scuttled through Earth’s atmosphere
Determined to hunt it down
It sprinkled colors as it flew by
The colors bashed with the atmosphere, fighting for victory

Red, the bravest of all, went on and on
Probing and prodding space
Looking for the slightest of hints

The moon was right there all the time
Tucked into earth’s shadow
Happy to be out of the spotlight

And when red hit it with full force
It could do little to avert it
Oh boy, did it blush.
